Chapel to Chapel Project

Chapel to Chapel Rural/Historic Heritage Route Project:

Work on this project is now in hand and will be carried out in four phases. Phase 1 covers the Santa Marija ta' Hal Tmiem Hamlet Zone extending along Triq Tar-Ramla taz-Zejtun and Triq Wied iz-Ziju. This area which sorely needed attention, already has a new hot tarmac surface and embellishment works along the sides of the rubble walls are in progress.

Works have now started on phase 2 which provides for water main extension and resurfacing of Triq Strejnu leading to San Niklaw Chapel up to Triq Xrob il-Ghagin.

Phase 3 covers a picnic area at the start of Triq Strejnu c/w alley 2, besides embelisshment works this part of the project entails the reconstruction of the encircling random rubble wall.

The last phase concerns the laying of drainage mains along Triq Xrob il-Ghagin since the Xrob il-Ghagin Hamlet is still without such an essential service. Hopefully the last permits will be in hand during early November so that works will start before the end of the month.

The chapel to chapel project proposed by the Mayor Joe Attard and supported by the Zejtun Local Councillors is the first major project in Zejtun supported by the Leader Programme which promotes Sustainable Developments in Rural Areas. The rural zone in Zejtun extending beyond the old Parish Church to Marsaskala and Marsaxlokk is a hive of activity by rural private initiative and the Local Council has long been working to promote such initiatives which need encouragement and support. The infrastructural and embellisment works of the Chapel to Chapel project will connect the Marsaskala side to the Tas-Silg Archeological Site and Marsaxlokk and will provide a pilot project for the whole area.
