Ta' Strejnu Proposed Project
The Zejtun Local Council, in conjunction with the GAL XLOKK, has recently submitted an E.U application for the rehabilitation of the Strejnu Zone. Triq Strejnu which crosses the rural area known as Misrah Strejnu has a number of established agricultural farms and new private rural investment eg: hydroponics, vineyards, boutique winery, olive pressing set-up and agro-touristic accommodation as well as a proposal for old rural Maltese means of transport has been neglected and cries for rehabilitation. The proposed project will strengthen and encourage both established as well as new private investment and attract day visitors and overnight tourists. This particular rural area connects the road leading to St. Thomas Bay / Marsascala with Triq Xrobb l-Ghagin leading to Tas-Silg archaeological site and Marsaxlokk. Both areas are popular tourist venues with locals and foreigners. One problem is that the public infrastructure is in a scary sorry state. Should the project be approved it will not only redress this pitiful situation but will provide added value to the whole area, rendering it more attractive. Luckily at both ends of Triq Strejnu exist two very ancient chapels St. Marija ta' Hal Tmiem on the St. Thomas Bay Road side and San Niklaw on the Xrobb L-Ghagin Side. Hence the ‘ Ta' Strejnu' project will connect two highly interesting historical rural sites and its' title "From Chapel to Chapel" . The project application is currently in the adjudicating stage. Should the project be approved, it will not only redress this pitiful situation but will provide added value to the whole area, rendering it more attractive
